Grow a self-contained butterfly habitat where students can learn about metamorphosis and hydroponics all-in-one!

Malva plants, a natural food source for Painted Lady butterflies, grow and blossom without the need of soil using a hydroponic system. Populate the habitat with caterpillars and watch the hungry insects munch on leaves for days before pupating and emerging as adult butterflies.

Students will be amazed as they watch butterflies sip on nectar and lay eggs on hydroponically grown host plants. The complete kit cycle, from start to finish, takes approximately 3–5 months.

An educator guide with instructions, reproducible worksheets, and background information is included. Guide includes standards for grades K–8, but this unit can be used at any grade level.

WARNING: Choking Hazard. Small Parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.
