Chemiluminescence Lab Activity

Grades 7-12.

Teach students about physical and chemical reactions that involve the release of light and heat energy. Students will learn about a light-emitting reaction called chemiluminescence, or cool light. They will create a chemiluminescent reaction in the classroom, and then observe the fascinating blue glow of the reaction, which lasts for over 10 minutes. Includes fifteen 25 ml bottles of luminol solution, 25 ml of 6% hydrogen peroxide, fifteen 30 ml plastic cups, and 15 transfer pipettes. Enough materials for 15 groups.
