Investigating Human Respiration
Grades 6-12.
Activity explores the role of the respiratory system in the regulation of gases in the blood. Students investigate how to quantitatively measure the amount of carbon dioxide in their exhaled breath by using an indicator to perform a titration. Kit includes 24 plastic cups, four dropper bottles of bromthymol blue (BTB) indicator, eight dropper bottles of 0.05 M sodium hydroxide, eight SEPUP trays, eight droppers, 16 stir sticks, 16 graduated cups (30 ml), 16 plastic bags (one gallon), 18 straws, 32 student worksheets and guides, and a teacher’s guide.
