Photosynthesis II examines the phosphorylation of glucose to produce starch in plant cells. Users collect phosphorylase in potato extract and use it to catalyze the synthesis of starch. They learn that starch synthesis requires primer starch to which glucose residues can be added and that inorganic phosphate inhibits starch synthesis. Required (not included): blender and fresh potatoes. Kit contains depression plates, medicine dropper, sodium fluoride solution, potassium phosphate solution, iodine solution, glucose, starch, glucose-1-phosphate, data sheets, MSDS, and instruction manual. Designed for 24 people working in groups of four.
