STEM Sports’ turnkey kits and curriculums use popular sports and real-life application to drive STEM-based learning in classrooms, after-school programs, and camps.
In the golf program, students learn a variety of STEM disciplines and build creative problem-solving and leadership skills. Students explore the science of golf in new and unique ways, such as:
- Learning how the rotation of Earth causes a change in the atmosphere and hydrosphere, creating different climates across the globe and thus affecting a golf course and its grass
- Gaining knowledge about gravity and/or gravitational force applied by Earth on objects directed down, which includes golf balls
- Learning about distance and potential energy through the practice of swinging a club at different angles and speeds and thus a different swing radius
- Exploring the composition of a golf ball and learning why there are “dimples” and how they affect the flight and spin of the ball
The STEM supplemental curriculum includes 8 lessons, providing a minimum of 16 hours of instruction that includes physical activity. The 5E sequenced lessons are specifically composed and differentiated for grades 3–5 and 6–8 and all align to NGSS, CCSS, and/or National Standards for K–12 Physical Education. Many lessons include worksheets, and the program is easily scalable for teachers, administrators, and even volunteers.
The program is available in 2 options:
- Golf Full Kit: Includes the curriculum manual and all the reusable sports equipment and science supplies needed to fully implement the program
- Golf Curriculum Manual Only: No sports equipment or science supplies included
