Grades 8-12.
Students become aware of the significance of water pollution by chemical examination of natural and treated water. Qualitative tests are performed by students on natural and treated water, and the degree of pollutant can be compared by the depth of color. Ten common pollutants are identified, as well as the determination of pH. Tests include: ammonia, chlorine, chromium, copper, cyanide, iron, nitrate, phosphate, silica, sulfide, and pH determination. A complete teacher’s instruction booklet with background information is also included. Complete for 50 students.
