Real-World Math: Unexpected Events Game
Grades 3-12.
Help students see the relevance of math skills. Each student begins with a checking account balance of $100. In turn, each student sees how many spaces to move and picks up an unexpected event
card. According to the card’s instructions, the student either adds or subtracts an amount from their account (e.g. receiving a birthday gift or taking the cat to the vet). The first student to reach the end receives a bonus amount. Students then add up how much money they have in their accounts and the one with the most money wins. Game board comes with 50 unexpected events cards, 20 sheets of a check register (reproducible), and 6 game pieces. For 2-6 players.
