CORI Flying Automata Mini Classroom Kit
Grades 2–8
In this project, students will explore the automata mechanical system while getting creative. They can use the included template to create a plane or invent their own flying device. This kit includes enough materials for 12 students working alone or 24 students working in pairs to make flying automata.
Each CORI kit is designed to engage students in the learning process with building projects that unleash creativity and promote application of practical STEM skills.
Developed and tested by educators and engineers, projects are created with simple, high-quality building components designed to be space-saving, time-efficient, and budget-friendly. The highlight is the CORI cardboard beams, which ship flat (in sheets) and easily fold into strong, lightweight structural elements.
This kit includes materials for 1224 students, plus a few extra components:
- 55 CORI beams with tape
- 14 wood dowels
- 30 wood dowel pins
- 28 wood wheels
- 14 crank arms
- 16 plastic rods
- 14 dowel-to-rod adapters
- 18 rod-to-plane mounts
- 14 jumbo paper straws
The only other supplies you need are scissors and glue. We recommend using a hot glue gun because of the fast drying time.
You can also supply some art and craft supplies and encourage students to enhance and personalize their creations.
